Adam Tyrer - New Chef

Meet Our New Chef
Adam Tyrer
Adam joins us from New Zealand.

“I have lived in many areas in New Zealand and I get my interest in food and cooking from my mum. We have always lived on lifestyle blocks (small holdings) and raised our own stock and grown vegetables at home, so I have always had an interest in using the ingredients to their full potential. I left school at 17 as I knew then that education was not the way forward for me, all I
have ever wanted is to be a chef and be the best I can be at it.”

We are currently developing our new menus for 2016

Installation of the 1st temporary bridge on Dunmail Raise bypass

7 February 2016 / News / Weather / Grasmere

Many of you will be aware that the A591 route to Keswick has been closed since the December flooding after Storm Desmond.

The good news is that a temporary bridge has now been installed.

Grasmere is Open for Business

The A591 in Cumbria is set to open for a public transport service between Grasmere and Keswick using a newly constructed temporary bypass & bridge over a river.

A PUBLIC bus service connecting Keswick and Grasmere via Thirlmere is planned to start later this month using the temporary road being built to bypass “The Gap” on Dunmail Raise.

The bus is expected to begin operating on February 16.

The bus service, which will be delivered on a commercial basis by Stagecoach, will connect with existing bus services at Grasmere, including through the central lakes to Kendal.

It will operate on an hourly basis from 7am until 7pm six days a week, with a two hourly service on a Sunday between 10am and 5pm, and offer a journey time of 45 minutes; cutting the existing journey time between the two locations by almost two hours.

Buses will leave Keswick at 5 minutes past the hour and leave Grasmere at 10 minutes to the hour (apart from the first bus of the day which will depart at 7am).

The Theory of Everything - Film Poster

The Theory of Everything is the story of the most brilliant and celebrated physicist of our time, Stephen Hawking, and Jane Wilde the arts student he fell in love with whilst studying at Cambridge in the 1960s. Little was expected from Stephen Hawking, a bright but shiftless student of cosmology, given just two years to live following the diagnosis of a fatal illness at 21 years of age. He became galvanized, however, by the love of fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde, and he went on to be called the successor to Einstein, as well as a husband and father to their three children. Over the course of their marriage as Stephen’s body collapsed and his academic renown soared, fault lines were exposed that tested the lineaments of their relationship and dramatically altered the course of both of their lives.

Guardian review – 4 / 5 stars

Hawking’s story packs powerful punch. Boffin biopic built on towering performances from Eddie Redmayne as the physicist and Felicity Jones as his first wife.

Even the science becomes relatively digestible. Stand by for no fewer than three mealtime scenes in which someone explains Hawking’s theories using, variously, a potato on a fork, the swirl of cream in coffee and beer spilled on a pub table.

Rotten Tomatoes – 80%

Part biopic, part love story, The Theory of Everything rises on James Marsh’s polished direction and the strength of its two leads.

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is the expansionist dream of Sonny (Dev Patel), and it’s making more claims on his time than he has available, considering his imminent marriage to the love of his life, Sunaina (Tina Desai). Sonny has his eye on a promising property now that his first venture, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel for the Elderly and Beautiful, has only a single remaining vacancy – posing a rooming predicament for fresh arrivals Guy (Richard Gere) and Lavinia (Tamsin Greig). Evelyn and Douglas (Judi Dench and Bill Nighy) have now joined the Jaipur workforce, and are wondering where their regular dates for Chilla pancakes will lead, while Norman and Carol (Ronald Pickup and Diana Hardcastle) are negotiating the tricky waters of an exclusive relationship, as Madge (Celia Imrie) juggles two eligible and very wealthy suitors. Perhaps the only one who may know the answers is newly installed co-manager of the hotel, Muriel (Maggie Smith), the keeper of everyone’s secrets.

Mark Kermode – Guardian Review -March 2015

The stellar cast returns to India for a likable but ramshackle continuation of a winning formula

62% Rotten Tomatoes

The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is about as original as its title — but with a cast this talented and effortlessly charming, that hardly matters.

Two artificial intelligence engineers come together as they work to create the first ever self-aware artificial intelligence. A veteran AI engineer secretly hopes to develop technology to help his diseased daughter, even if it means funding comes from the powerful Ministry of Defense (MoD). Things go wrong when the MoD takes over and advances the researchers’ work to the next level, teaching the AI to kill and follow MoD instructions with its new and nearly indestructible body.

Leslie Felperin review – Guardian
Caradog James packs his sci-fi thriller – starring Caity Lotz as a kickass cyborg – with too much philosophy, but directs with brio.

The Machine proves an audacious debut for writer-director Caradog James and a solid entry in modern British sci-fi, with thematic heft to match its genre thrills.
