New website coming soon

We’re just putting the finishing touches together for our updated website.

This will include our online booking system, twitter feed and great photos courtesy of Phil Powell and WeMakeMedia.

Hopefully we’ll be live by the end of the week to coincide with the installation of our card payment system – hoorah!

This should all make life so much easier…… and no more silly large cash payments. Meanwhile business has been great, with a full house over the last two weekends and the catering kitchen properly tested out with a flurry of breakfasts ordered.

We’ve had a successful first few weeks at Thorney How Independent Hostel in Grasmere with regular bookings and a busy Easter period.

We are now looking for a general assistant to start as soon as possible.

Duties will be varied according to seasonality and bookings performance.

Hours will be flexible and on a rota basis to ensure cover throughout the week and weekends working alongside the Assistant Manager F/T and Chef P/T.

Ideally you will have had some previous experience with cooking, cleaning, service and front of house. However most important is a cheerful and personable nature, being keen to get on with other staff, reliability and honesty along with getting the work done swiftly. Salary is dependent on experience.

We are looking for a new person to join our team and help make Thorney How a memorable place to stay and visit.

Chef required, Grasmere. We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Chef at Thorney How Independent Hostel in Grasmere. The Hostel is set in the heart of the Lake District with 10 bedrooms and over 50 beds. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years experience as a Chef working with fresh produce in a demanding environment. Essential requirements: confident in menu planning and pricing, stock taking, stock rotation, food hygiene certificate level 2 and above. Must be computer literate and familiar with standard software such as spreadsheets. Must be prepared to be flexible and undertake other tasks within the hostel as required, able to work under pressure and fit in with a small tight nit team.

Salary £14-16000 initially offered as a pro rata P/T seasonal role with opportunities to extend to a FT permanent contract. Accommodation is not provided.

Alasdair joins us having previously worked with a number of hostels in the Lakes.

Trialling new online booking system

We’ve just set up a new on-line booking system that we’d like your feedback on. You can try it to the top right of this page. Just select a check in date and the number of nights that you would like to stay, we’ve suggested two nights, then click search. This should then give you the number of bunks available in each room. If all goes well we’ll be adding this to our website as part of it’s upgrade too shortly.

The booking system is supplied by who first contacted us via Twitter. So far it seems to be a straightforward, yet well organised software application. We’ll know more once we’ve tested it for a while.
