12 Year's a Slave - Film Poster

Based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender), as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) will forever alter his life.

97% Tomatometer – Review on Rotten Tomatoes ‘It’s far from comfortable viewing, but 12 Years a Slave’s unflinchingly brutal look at American slavery is also brilliant — and quite possibly essential — cinema.’

Mark Kermode – The Observer, Sunday 12 January 2014
‘Steve McQueen deserves every gong going for his unflinching portrayal of slavery.’

Film starts 8.30pm – free admission
Joining us for food – we have BBQ’d Cumberland Sauasages from 6.30pm £3.95 plus other main evening menu options available from £10.50 – please book ahead.

Gravity: Film Poster

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone – tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness.

97% Tomatometer – Review on Rotten Tomatoes ‘Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity is an eerie, tense sci-fi thriller that’s masterfully directed and visually stunning.’

Peter Bradshaw – The Guardian – Thursday 7th November 2013
‘Director and co-writer Cuarón brilliantly manages to create both awe at his glorious space vistas, and knuckle-gobbling tension at what’s happening in the foreground. It’s like a bank heist in Reims cathedral – in space. You could find yourself asthmatically gasping with rapture and excitement at the same time. After it was over, I was 10 minutes into my tube ride home before I remembered to exhale.’

Film starts 8.30pm – free admission
Joining us for food – we have BBQ’d Cumberland Sauasages from 6.30pm £3.95 – please book ahead
