Storyline

In the cold war, a lawyer, James B. Donovan is recruited by the CIA and involved in an intense negotiation mission to release and exchange a CIA U-2 spy-plane pilot, Francis G. Powers. The pilot was arrested alive after his plane was shot down by the Soviet Union during a mission and stays in the company of a KGB intelligence officer, Rudolf Abel, who was arrested for espionage in the US.

“Guardian Review - 5 stars”:https://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/oct/05/bridge-of-spies-film-review-tom-hanks-steven-spielberg-cold-war-gary-powers-u2

Tom Hanks and Mark Rylance red hot in Steven Spielberg’s magnificent cold war thriller. The tense negotiations over the recovery of U2 pilot Gary Powers in 1960s Berlin are the real-life backdrop to this wonderfully uncynical thriller scripted by the Coen brothers

“RottenTomatoes Review - 91%”:https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bridge_of_spies/

Critics Consensus: Bridge of Spies finds new life in Hollywood’s classic Cold War espionage thriller formula, thanks to reliably outstanding work from Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.
